Nantou Travel: Dalun Mountain Ginkgo Forest

One of the scenic spots in Lugu Township is the "Dalun Mountain Ginkgo Forest." This area is situated at an altitude of 1300-1600 meters and enjoys a cool climate with clouds and fog throughout the year. The surrounding area is renowned for its Shanlinxi mountain tea. If you're interested in tea or want to witness the transformation of the mountains, experience the sensation of walking in the clouds, and savor delicious food while admiring the magnificent scenery from the mountaintop, this is the place to go. The owners, Zhong Yiquan and Zhong Xiangji, are local tea farmers who operate the "Tianjiaxiang Tea Garden." Their tea gardens are situated at an altitude of 1300-1600 meters. In addition to tea, they also offer various light meals, small hot pots, honeyed chicken drumsticks, and a range of local flavors. The food is prepared using natural organic vegetables grown at their home, ensuring it is free of pesticide pollution.

What is Gingko?

Ginkgo is a gymnosperm species that dates back to the Mesozoic era. It is the only medium to large deciduous broad-leaved tree among gymnosperms, reaching heights of 20-35 meters. The fruit of the ginkgo tree is oval, with ripe fruit turning golden yellow. The seeds, known as "ginkgo nuts," are edible and delicious. Ginkgo trees thrive in high-cold areas, and the Dalun Mountain area boasts the largest cultivated Ginkgo biloba forest on the island, covering approximately 60-80 hectares.
Ginkgo biloba is an ancient Chinese medicinal material. Over the past few decades, Western medicine in Europe, America, and Japan has developed preparations using ginkgo biloba extract. The main functions of these preparations include promoting blood circulation, preventing Alzheimer's disease, providing antispasmodic effects, and possessing anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Ginkgo trees originated during the middle of the Paleozoic era, approximately 300 million years ago. They were abundant during that time and spread across cold climate areas. Ginkgo trees are known for their exceptional vitality, earning them the nickname "living fossils."
Ginkgo trees have fan-shaped leaves on long stalks. In spring and summer, the leaves display emerald green to dark green hues. In autumn, they transform into a magnificent golden yellow, creating a stunning ginkgo forest in Taiwan.
Unfortunately, when we visited in the afternoon, the sky was covered with clouds and fog. While it was still pleasant to see, the experience would have been even more enchanting with sunshine illuminating the beautiful golden leaves.
