Tainan Astronomical Education Area - Nanying Planetarium

Although it's Saturday and my husband has to drive to Hsinchu for work later on, the weather finally got better, so we decided to go out. It's not far from our place, so we rode our scooter to the mountains and visited the Danei Planetarium. The park area is quite nice, with several decorations that are good for taking pictures and entertaining children.

Tainan Astronomical Education Area / Nanying Planetarium (南瀛天文館)

Nanying Planetarium is an environmental education facility in Tainan City. The park consists of three areas: the Astronomical Observation Hall, the Astronomical Exhibition Hall, and the Astronomical Planetarium.
The Astronomical Observation Hall houses the country's largest diameter astronomical observation telescope, measuring 76 cm. It often holds astronomical lectures and explanations during special celestial events. The Planetarium mainly utilizes the Hubble Astronomical Telescope as the main display axis, with the 3D Astronomical Theater being the main highlight.

Due to low light pollution, the Danei District is recognized as the most suitable place for stargazing in southern Taiwan, earning it the reputation of "the hometown of stars." In the Nanying Astronomy Education Park, there are not only professional telescopes for the public to experience the beauty of astronomy but also a wealth of secrets and knowledge about the universe in the exhibition hall.

Astronomical Observation Hall: This is the oldest building in the park. It houses astronomical telescopes of various sizes for astronomical observation. During the day, visitors can enjoy views of Zengwen Creek meandering, river terraces, and the Moon World mudstone badlands from the stargazing platform. On Saturdays and during special astronomical events, night stargazing activities are also available.
Astronomical Exhibition Hall: The exhibition hall is designed with the "moon" as the symbolic image, taking into account the terrain and natural conditions. It employs high-tech virtual reality displays to provide an experiential exhibition design, creating an astronomical space that combines technology and fantasy. Through vivid, lively, and rich astronomical themes, along with special exhibitions on popular astronomical topics, it aims to inspire a love for astronomy among the public.
Planetarium: The building takes the form of a semi-circular sphere, symbolizing the image of the "sun." The star theater serves as the main axis of the exhibition and is the first in Taiwan to use a digital dome for 3D displays, employing the latest technology in the world.

Tainan Travel: Danei Tototro Bus Stop

Danei Totoro Bus Stop (大內龍貓公車站)

The Danei Totoro Bus Stop is located in Danei District, which is situated in the central part of Tainan City, Taiwan. It shares borders with six districts: Guantian and Liujia to the north, Yujing and Nanxi to the east, Shanhua to the west, and Shanshang to the south. This area is positioned at the junction of the Jianan Plain and the mountainous region. Around 70% of the area consists of low-altitude hillsides with a tropical monsoon climate. Due to the underdevelopment of industry and commerce, agricultural activities dominate the local economy. Additionally, the Nanxun Astronomy Education Park is located in this area, taking advantage of the lack of light pollution.

The Danei area was originally inhabited by the indigenous Dawu people (Tevorangh), a branch of the Silaya family. In the middle of the 16th century, the Kawan people entered the area around Zengwenxi, leaving many worships to Arizu. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the Yang brothers from Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, settled in Kailuan. As this place is situated on the inner side of the mountain, the Han people often referred to it as "Nai Zhuang" (Minnan: lāi-tsng), meaning "the village inside." Another theory suggests that the boss of the Yang brothers was named Yang Nei, so the village he lived in was called "inside the village."

In 1920, during the Japanese colonial period, "Da Nei Zhuang" was established here, under the jurisdiction of Zengwen County in Tainan. After the war, it became Danei Township in Tainan County. On December 25, 2010, it was officially renamed Danei District.
