Water Purification Pond (淨水池區)
When entering the park, the first area you encounter is the garden area. Proceed straight along "Shanziding Avenue" and you will reach the "Miyanomori Ring." In the past, there were eight Ryukyu pines planted during the Japanese era, but due to pests and diseases, only two remain.
"Shanziding Avenue" is the old place name, referring to the museum district area called "Shanziding." The name "Miyanomori" for the ring comes from the fact that the Japanese planned a golf course here during their rule. They set up a 9-hole golf course in the water source area of the Tainan River. In July 1933, Fushiminomiya Hiroyuki visited this place, and the golf course was later named "Miyanomori Golf Course." Although the golf course is now abandoned, the entire area remains green and has a gentle terrain, making it an ideal place for outdoor recreation.
An art garden is planned on the southeast side of the garden area. The garden is planted with various grass flowers and shrubs, and the row of magnolia flowers along Shanziding Avenue creates a colorful visual landscape. In spring, the garden is adorned with plenty of blooming cherry trees.
After the Second World War, there was an increase in population and water consumption, resulting in inadequate waterway facilities during the Japanese rule. In 1952, the Taiwan Water Company added a quick-filter chamber. The quick filter chamber is a reinforced brick building on the ground floor, with a special textured treatment on the outer wall and a pure-wood straight column truss roof. The basement floor still retains the complete quick filter pipeline. Its function is to quickly filter the raw water using granular filter materials such as sand and ore, trapping suspended solids, bacteria, microorganisms, and other impurities to produce purified water.
To visit the clean water pool, you need to climb the 189-step trail. The exterior of the pool is composed of two types of natural stone and imitation stone, creating a gray building. On each side of the clean pool, there is a water quality inspection room, and the top is covered with soil and planted with 59 cast iron ventilation pipe columns. Behind the clean pool, there is a circular sign in the center of the gable wall of the clean water well gate. In front of the clean water tank walkway, there is a water meter room made of red brick. Although small in scale, it has a simple and elegant design. The water meter was originally installed in the room to measure the water supply.
