Kaohsiung Travel: Stalactites, Military Caves and One-Lne Sky

In the past 2-3 months, we haven't been able to explore many places. I've also been neglecting my blog and feeling a bit bored with it. However, I don't want it to disappear completely, so I'm trying to motivate myself to write about anything and go anywhere, even if it may not be the most exciting. I searched on Google Maps to find some natural places, and despite the unfavorable weather for mountain trips, I finally had the opportunity to go out.
I discovered a small place in Tianliao, Kaohsiung that offers a view similar to Kenting National Park, although on a much smaller scale. There are stalactites, large rocks, and military caves in this area.

The air-raid trenches in Dagang Mountains were created during the Japanese Occupation Period. Dagang Mountains are densely covered with caves, some of which are natural formations like the lover's cave and weight-loss cave, while most were artificially constructed during the Japanese occupation. The Japanese referred to these military caves as "air-defense trenches." The air-defense trenches in Dagang Mountain are mainly concentrated in the back mountains, extending from Tianliao Country Middle School along the Gao 37 line to the south. There are about ten scattered caves, most of which are hidden in the grass. The air-raid trenches between Chaoyuan Temple and Shimujiu are less well-known but are often visited by tourists.

According to accounts from Japanese veterans, during the late stages of the Pacific War in 1945, the situation was tense. These air-raid trenches have a height of about 1.8-2.2 meters and a width of 2.3-2.7 meters, with depths ranging from 11.6-15.4 meters. Some trenches have only a single entrance and exit, while others are connected. Over time, the rock walls have developed formations of stalactites. It's important to note that entering the military caves is prohibited, and visitors should be cautious of snakes in the area.
