Tainan Travel: Orchid City and Bald Cypress in Liujia

Yet another weekend where we couldn't travel far. Our car needed maintenance, so we had to rely on our scooter for transportation. It feels like we've been staying in Tainan for many weeks now, and it's starting to become a bit boring. Last weekend, we visited Madou and Lioujia, where we explored the sugar factory and admired the bald cypress trees. This time, we decided to visit Orchid City (蘭都觀光工廠). Although it's technically a factory that produces and promotes orchid-infused products, I was mainly interested in seeing some beautiful flowers.

Orchid City is part of the Yousheng Group, which started in the yacht manufacturing industry and later ventured into producing healthy and natural daily necessities. Their products are based on the principles of "natural" and "purity." Through the combined efforts of the company and the factory, they have developed pure and harmless products, creating the Tainan orchid brand, which offers effective maintenance and comes with unique stories.

The beneficial properties of orchids are widely used in various aspects of daily life. They produce natural, non-toxic, food-grade orchid toothpaste, gentle shampoos and bath products, a range of hand creams, body lotions, and a top-quality facial care series. They even offer ultra-luxury, zero-alcohol perfume essential oils, ensuring complete care from head to toe. In 2014, they also launched orchid-infused laundry and dishwashing gels.

To promote and showcase the pride of Tainan's orchid industry, the "Landu Sightseeing Factory" was established. This facility combines leisure and education, allowing visitors to experience, explore, and learn about the cultural knowledge and products related to orchids.

There is also Bald cypress forest nearby, although the trees are still pretty much green.

Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center (總爺藝文中心)

The Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center is a beautiful sight with its red building standing against the blue sky. Additionally, the Tsung-Ye Chief Dormitory, a well-preserved wooden building in typical Japanese style, adds to the picturesque scenery, making it a great spot for photography. Within the center's grounds, many buildings, scattered among the trees, have been transformed into art workshops. This creative environment boosts the artists' creativity, and with each visit, new artworks are displayed.

The Tainan Master Art Center was preceded by the Madou Sugar Factory, which spans an area of 37 hectares. The Zongye Sugar Factory was established in 1906, and due to its rich historical buildings, restaurants, and guest houses, the Madou Sugar Factory is designated as a third-class historic site. Within the park, there is a green tunnel that stretches for about 100 meters. The Japanese-style wooden and red brick buildings found in the park are also of significant value. The red building housing the main office of the Zongye Art and Culture Center was constructed in 1912.

Yunlin Travel: Chenglin Agarwood - Bald Cypress

There are many places in Taiwan, including factories, that not only showcase and sell products but also have gardens where visitors can enjoy beautiful views.

Chenglin Agarwood is one such place that introduces agarwood and products made from it. It consists of a gift shop and a landscaped park. In one area of the park, you can find ponds surrounded by bald cypress trees. On the other side of the park, there are various plants along with ponds, and you may even spot ducks and chickens freely roaming around. Additionally, there is a designated area for kids to play with sand, adding to the overall family-friendly atmosphere.

Also in Huwei you can see some silk floss trees blooming. This place is in Nongbo Park near HSR station.

Yunlin Travel: Bald Cypress in Huwei

We returned to Yunlin this time, leaving our child with their grandparents. Finally, we have some time alone, which rarely happens in over 2 years. I feel tired being with our child 24/7, especially now that the days are getting colder. He wakes up multiple times at night, asking to be covered. It's quite annoying. I put on extra clothes for him and don't think it's really that cold to require a blanket for sleeping. No one told me about the challenges of having a child earlier. Everyone was like, "having a child is so wonderful," but now I feel like they were all liars 😂

I wanted to visit the Huwei Sugar Factory, but it seems they don't offer tours inside the factory. We wanted to go last year, but it wasn't allowed without booking the tour in advance on their website. It's actually free to visit, but you need a group of 10 people if you want to go.

Not far from the factory, there is a small park (which is actually someone's garden) with ponds and bald cypress trees. Luckily, the weather was nice, and the place looked truly beautiful. Many people were there, and even tour buses arrived, bringing visitors to the park.
