Shangzhangshulin Ancient Road (上樟樹林古道)
During our visit to Xinpu, Hsinchu, we had the opportunity to explore one private garden. This garden, which is open to visitors for free, offers a variety of flowers to admire, including trumpet trees, cherry blossoms, wisteria, and a pomelo garden.
The garden provided big parking space and was not overly crowded, making it a pleasant and peaceful place to explore.
The Golden Trumpet Trees are commonly found in the middle and south regions of Taiwan. These flowers are rich in nectar, making them beneficial for honey production. The Pink Trumpet Tree, although less common, is particularly captivating in my opinion. Both species are native to the American tropics and subtropics. Tabebuia rosea, one of the species, is also valued for its timber. The wood of these trees is typically lightweight, and they are widely cultivated as ornamental flowers.
Wisteria plants are native to China, Korea, and Japan. These woody climbing vines can reach heights of up to 20 meters and spread over 10 meters. The flowers of the wisteria can be 10-30 cm long, and their blooming season varies depending on the species, occurring in either spring or summer. The Purple Vine Coffee Garden in New Taipei City is one of the most renowned places for growing wisteria in Taiwan, boasting 500 wisteria trees.
In the garden, you can also find various types of cherry blossom trees. Cherry blossoms are the flowers of several trees belonging to the Prunus genus, which includes plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, and almonds. Many of these trees are cultivated for their fruits and decorative purposes. Among the trees we encountered in Xinpu, there was a beautiful pink blooming almond tree.
Apart from the trees mentioned above, we also saw cactus tree, lilies, and other flowers. Blooming camellias, also known as tea flowers, caught our attention as well. Camellias can grow up to 20 meters tall, and their flowers can reach a diameter of 12 cm. Decorative camellias come in various colors, including white, yellow, pink, and red. Those used for tea production typically have small white flowers. The seeds of these plants are used to make tea oil. We also spotted some geese and chickens roaming the garden.
