Tainan Travel: Xinying Sugar Factory and other attractions

Xinying Sugar Factory (新營糖廠)

Xinying Sugar Factory, located in Tainan, is one of the three main factories of Taiwan Sugar Company. The office buildings and dormitories in the factory area are unique and well-organized. The factory features numerous railway tracks and flexible vehicle dispatching, which were primarily used during the prosperous era of Taiwan Sugar Company's passenger transportation. Many half-sized carriages and small locomotives are preserved for business use, and various diesel locomotives can be found in the diesel locomotive yard, transporting various raw materials between Taiwan Railway Xinying Railway Station and Taiwan Sugar Xinying By-product Processing Plant. The railway operating route offers diversity, with a gauge of 1,067mm and the presence of the big Hitachi seven-minute train.

The factory area holds significant railway cultural relics, and it is envisioned that the rich sugar industry railway culture combined with the leisure industry will be utilized. Zhongxing Station will serve as the starting point for the sightseeing five-minute train, passing through Jishuixi Bridge, Guoyihouqi Station, and the terminal station, Wei Ba Lao Ye Station, located in the "Dairy Cow's Home Farm" in Baon Dairy Farm District. The 4.6km Baon Line Railway allows tourists to experience round-trip travel between sugar culture and animal husbandry, promoting the development of cultural tourism and the leisure industry.

Stamp Museum (糖福印刷創意館)

The Tangfu Printing Creative Museum, formerly the Tangfu Printing Office established by the Taiwan Sugar Employee Welfare Committee, preserves the history of letterpress printing. The museum houses many zinc plates used in printing at that time, as well as typeset crafted by master printers. Visitors can immerse themselves in the printing process, smell the ink, and listen to the guides' explanations, experiencing the principles of small manual printing machines and appreciating the legacy of the flourishing letterpress printing industry before the advent of laser and inkjet printers.

The Stamp Museum, also known as the Sugar Factory Printing Creative Museum, was once the exclusive printing office of TaiSugar. It produced business bulletins, sugarcane newspapers, and trade union communications. Despite the decline of the sugar industry and the rise of the digital era, the museum has been relocated and preserved as a cultural asset in Xinying District.

Green Tunnel in Changsheng Camp (長勝營區綠色隧道)

After the military troops withdrew from the Changsheng camp, the area retained precious training stories and remnants of old buildings. The highlight is the green tunnel, a unique military landscape intentionally planted to provide cover for early armored vehicles. The original development concept posed a threat to the tunnel's ecology, prompting the city government to revise the urban plan and preserve the beautiful forest land in North Tainan. The preserved and planned green tunnels in the Changsheng Camp area, along with the boulevard formed by two rows of banyan trees, present a rare sight in the shape of a green tunnel.
