It's cherry blossom season! We visited Baoshan Plum Park in Kaohsiung for the first time. Unfortunately, when we arrived at 1 PM, there wasn't much sunlight. The park is about a 2-2.5 hour drive from our home in either direction - whether taking the highway or the mountain road, the timing was similar. We decided to follow the mountain route both ways. Along the way, we made a short stop in Jiaxian, a town known for its taro products. However, there weren't many food options available. From Jiaxian, it took us another hour to reach Baoshan Park, and there were two bridges with malfunctioning traffic lights. The lights were stuck on red, causing traffic congestion. Cars were waiting until a garbage truck decided to ignore the light and crossed the bridge, leading the rest of the cars to follow. On the road, we also came across a small area with plum trees.
Baoshan Sakura Park is situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It boasts around 5,000 cherry trees, including Kawajin cherry, Yae cherry, and Yoshino cherry varieties. Depending on the type of cherry tree, the flowering period can range from early February to March. The park was developed during the Japanese occupation. At the park's entrance, there is a free car park and a small market offering some traditional food. Due to limited parking spaces, many people ended up parking along the nearby roads.
